Creative Writing Workshops and Readings
Current Workshops: I am taking bookings for a new set of creative writing workshops, planned for February and March 2008. The aim is to have fun with your writing, in a relaxed environment, learning new skills and making friends along the way. These are suitable for all levels and, depending on the interest, may be split so that more advanced writers have their own sessions.
These workshops will be held near Cockermouth, in Cumbria, at the Sheep and Wool Centre. This is easily found, has plenty of parking and a restaurant on site. The facilities are modern, clean and warm, with a friendly atmosphere.
If you are interested in setting up a creative writing workshop for your school or group, please contact me. These courses are tailored to suit different ages and abilities and I am happy to incorporate a particular theme, etc, if this is important to your group.
Schools and Childrens Groups: My main aim with any student is to spark the imagination and I find it doubly important with children, who may associate all writing with schoolwork. I help them to discover the fun of creating their own story, with a set of characters and events completely in their control. They each start out in the same way, but then create their own, individual stories. In workshops which are run over more than one session, I can also provide classroom books full of the children's work, to display in school and as a permanent reminder of my visit.
I am also available for school visits and readings of my work. This can be incorporated into workshops or classes for the school, or as an individual visit to stimulate the children's interest in reading and creative writing. The visit is usually made up of reading from my work, followed by discussions with the audience and answering any questions they may have, then rounding off with more of the story.
Groups: For adults, I provide workshops aimed at bringing enjoyment and a sense of achievement into creative writing. The work has a general theme, suitable for most individuals, or can follow a set theme arranged beforehand. The workshops available range from absolute beginners, to more advanced and experienced writers.
Readings from my books can also be adapted to suit groups of adults or children's clubs. Please contact me via the Email page if you would like to find out more.
